2022 Anjiro Initiative Fundraiser raises over $30K for education
The annual fundraising campaign ran in August and raised $30,144 to support education. As a result, tuition scholarships were granted to primary school, secondary school, and university students in Anjiro, Madagascar. Grants will also be provided for entrance exam prep and exam fees for secondary school graduates.
Earlier this year, informational program flyers in Malagasy and French were distributed throughout Anjiro to get more students to apply for grants. Through this wider distribution of information and the funds raised, Anjiro Initiative was able to disburse tuition payments to schools for 250 students this 2022-2023 school year, including 102 boys and 148 girls, with 59% of the FY22 scholarships going towards supporting girls.
Additionally, Anjiro Initiative purchased and distributed school supplies kits (1 bag, 3 copybook, 1 pencil, 1 eraser, and 4 pens) for all of the 250 FY22 scholarship recipients attending Lycee Sabotsy Anjiro, Collège Sainte Chantal Sabotsy Anjiro, and FJKM Lovasoa. This action helped families through these difficult times, ensured that children have the necessary resources to thrive in school, and created equity to disadvantaged scholarship recipients.
“This is our 9th year hosting the fundraiser, and we continue to exceed our goals and increase support to students and families in Anjiro,” said Clifford Duong, Founder and President. “With the continued generosity of our donors, we anticipate growing our program in 2023.”
The fundraiser was held online primarily through the platform GoFundMe. While there is one annual campaign to generate funds for the upcoming school year, donations are accepted year round and fully tax deductible for US residents.
